House Hunting
As you may have seen, myself and Dean are now full on house hunting! I have never felt like such an adult in my life! Like how have I gone from deciding if I want an €8 Penneys top, to deciding what house I want to live in for probably the rest of my life!! This is serious pressure!
We started off by looking at a local new development, just to get an idea of what this whole house hunting business is all about. We went in, ooh'ed and aah'ed over the show houses and left. We spoke to no one and asked no questions. We didn't knock on any walls or whip out the measuring tape. The houses were fabulous, of course. Lovely fluffy carpets, a sparkling kitchen and beautiful bedrooms but I have no idea about anything else!
As soon as we got home the questions came flooding in, was the garden big, could we convert the attic, was there a green near by, what's the BER rating, was the furniture on display standard size (apparently they use smaller furniture to make rooms look bigger). Of course we didn't know the answer to any of these questions but knew what to look out for next time round.
On our next house hunting expedition we visited two second hand houses (not sure if that's the correct term?!), which were similarly priced to the new builds. They were both grand but would have needed a good bit of work, like windows replaced, carpets pulled and floors done. Considering the price wasn't far off the new builds we weren't really interested. (I'll get down to the nitty gritty figures in another blog post.)
By the time we got around to viewing a second new development we kinda had an idea of what to look out for. The houses in this new development were also really nice but when we went to inquire about them we found out they were all sold out, which seems to be the case with most new developments (in Dublin anyway). So if you are looking for a new house, be prepared to buy from plans!
To summarise, we've pretty much gotten no where! 😁 But don't worry we'll keep looking and learning! And if you're in the middle of house hunting or planning on starting soon here's a little list of what I've been looking out for :)
