Closing the sale

Image
Last time we spoke we had just signed my contracts for the house. As of today we still haven't got the keys but we're so close to getting that call!! At the minute we're finalising everything with the developers, the solicitors and the bank. It's a bit manic dealing with everyone separately and my phone is constantly hopping with updates! I will be so glad to have everything finalised and the keys in my hands! So let me fill you in on the (hopefully) final stages of buying a house! The Developers As both myself and Dean live pretty close to our new house we can easily (and constantly!) check on it to see the progress of the build. Last week, after what seemed like forever, we got the call to say that our house was ready for inspection (side note: we knew this, we had even managed to sneak into the house a few days before!). Once we got the official word on the house being ready for inspection we organised someone to visit the house and do a snag list. This is basically...

Afternoon Tea in The Atrium Lounge

Image
A few weeks ago, my sister treated myself and my Mam to afternoon tea in The Atrium Lounge in The Westin Hotel, for both our birthdays. And what a treat it was.... Firstly The Atrium Lounge is stunning! It's a beautiful, bright, internal courtyard right in the middle of The Westin Hotel with a five storey high glass ceiling. Once we were seated we instantly ordered a glass of prosecco (no surprises there) and we were advised on the options available to us. There are two types of afternoon tea to choose from. One is A Most Peculiar Afternoon Tea and the other, which we went for, is a traditional afternoon tea. As much as I like my sweets and cakes I was after a good balance of sweet and savoury and the traditional afternoon tea was perfect for this. Shortly after ordering we were presented with a towering display of our delicacies. The bottom tier was all savoury including a delicious brioche roll filled with egg mayonaisse (my favourite!), a brown bread scone topped with salmon an...

Island Hopping in Croatia

Image
So I'm not long back from a 10 day island hopping holiday in Croatia, and of course I'm here to fill you in on everything. First, the basics - we booked our return flights to Split ourselves through Aer Lingus and paid about €200 per person (incl. one checked bag per couple). From a bit of research we found out that while Split is on the coast, it's not very beachy so 10 full days there might be a bit long. We decided to explore the nearby islands and settled on four days in Split, two days on Brac, two days on Hvar and then back to Split for two days. Our fabulous accommodation - link here So let me start off with how we got on in Split. It's a huge busy town built around the ruins of an ancient Roman emperors palace. The streets are stoney and narrow....if you're tall you'll want to mind your head! You'll be ducking and diving in and out of streets, going through tunnels and walking and up and down many many steps!! Tiny corridors opened up to huge squar...
